Tideland Beacons For Indian Lighthouses

Tideland Signal Limited has recently won an order from the Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships, DGLL, through its agent HI-TECH Elastomers, for a total of 16 large beacons to be deployed in automated lighthouses around the coast of the sub-continent.

The equipment supplied by Tideland includes five TRB-220 rotating beacons and eleven ML-300 lanterns fitted with MaxiHALO-EFF LED Flashers, which have a range in excess of 10 NM. The rotating beacons have ranges of 18+ NM to 20+NM and will be installed at Kasaragod and Anjengo in Kerala, Kalingapatnam in Andhara Pradesh, Kilikkaraai in Tamil Nadu and Paradip in Orissa.

Tideland's TRB-220 MaxLumina is a medium-range beacon specifically designed for lighthouse conversions and producing a high intensity beam with a range in excess of 20 nautical miles (at T = 0.74). It features an ultra-efficient optical system with the lens panel moulded in UV-resistant acrylic. The sealed upper housing is suitable for use with lamps up to 110 watts, without the need for cooling fans or venting, which eliminates any problems of moisture damage.

The drive system is an advanced gearless direct-drive motor with a choice of AC or DC power input and is also suitable for solar-powered operation. The direct drive turntable has precise, user-selectable speed control and a motor design life of 25 years. Both the drive system and the TRB-220's lampchanger units include built-in facilities for remote monitoring, either by radio, satellite or telephone, using the Tideland NavLink system.

The MaxLumina ML-300MaxiHALO-EFF lanterns will be deployed in the lighthouses at Port Cornwallis, Sir Hugh Rose Point, Chowra, Bampoka, Rutland, Rosen Point, Aves Island (Mayabunder), Chidia Tapu and Minicoy with two further units supplied. This lantern is a lightweight, corrosion-resistant design featuring microprocessor control and a one-piece acrylic Fresnel lens capable of achieving up to 19,800 candela and a range of 18 nautical miles.
