The Hydrographic Society UK is to mark this year's World Hydrography Day and its own 25th anniversary with a commemorative evening reception (THS UK 25) on Friday 25 June aboard HQS Wellington moored on the Thames Embankment, London.
Beginning at 1630 and open to Society members, their partners and non-members alike, ceremonies will feature entertaining presentations by Dr Mark Horton, Reader in Archaeology at Bristol University and lead presenter of BBC TV's popular Coast programmes, and Ola Oskarsson, Managing Director of Marin Matteknik, Sweden. The celebratory evening also includes a drinks reception in HQS Wellington's model room with its priceless collection of antique model ships, followed by a later hot fork supper and opportunities to explore the historic World War 2 vessel which now serves as the Livery Hall of the Honourable Company of Master Mariners.
Co-sponsors of the prestigious event, which will be the only UK-based one to be held in conjunction with World Hydrography Day, include IVS 3D and Seatronics. Wide-ranging options for additional sponsors are still available.
Tickets can be obtained for £60 per head from Helen Atkinson, The Hydrographic Society UK, PO Box 103, Plymouth PL4 7YP (Tel: 01752 223512 Email: helen@ths.org.uk). A dedicated event website detailing additional information and further opportunities for sponsorship is at www.ths.org.uk/events.
