Metocean Services International (Pty) Ltd (MSI) is pleased to announce that they have successfully completed a 1 year current measurement programme for 9 locations in the far north of Norway (68º-69ºN).

The Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) initiated this study to increase their understanding and knowledge on metocean data in the Lofoten - Vesterålen area in Nordland county. The observations will also be given to support the Mareano programme. Some rigs with current profilers are already in place in the area and OLF extended the current programmes with additional moorings.

For this programme MSI deployed 9 separate moorings, each fitted with a current profiler (frequency depending on water depth) and CTD logger. The moorings were serviced at intervals of approximately 3 months using vessels chartered by MSI. The project was mobilised from Sandnessjoen and moorings were deployed in positions designated according to the least conflict with fisheries (tracking system). The positions were published in Notices to Mariners, and information given to the Norwegian Fishermen's Association, the Norwegian Coastal Administration and to the Coast Guard.

Over the course of the programme only one mooring was lost, resulting in a total successful data collection of 35 out of 36 deployments. Given the duration, quantity of moorings and location, we believe that this is a remarkable achievement.

Where possible, MSI co-ordinated the service visits for this project with the service visits for other existing projects in Norway, resulting in substantial cost savings for both clients.

This project is just one of many that MSI has successfully undertaken in Norwegian waters and again proves that distance is no obstacle for the team at MSI. With careful planning and extensive project management experience, MSI continues to cover the world and increase its footprint in a controlled and managed manner.

Formed in 2003, MSI provides the entire range of oceanographic and meteorological services internationally to the oil and gas industry, coastal engineers, dredging companies and port authorities.

MSI has a management team that brings together over 50 years of experience in the industry. With offices in South Africa and Australia and using state of the art equipment, MSI has successfully conducted operations in over 29 countries since inception.
