SonTek/YSI, advancing environmental science in over 100 countries, manufactures acoustic Doppler instrumentation for water velocity measurement in oceans, rivers, harbors, estuaries, and laboratories, has a position open for a Physical Oceanographer/Product Manager.
The individual hired for this position will take the lead role on SonTek's coastal/oceanographic product line with respect to high-level applications support and guiding product development. This will also include development of promotional and distribution strategy to meet overall business goals.
Other major responsibilities include:
· Proactively identify emerging technologies and applications important to the coastal/ocean product lines, and coordinate their implementation in a project oriented framework, in partnership with the Research & Development, and Sales & Marketing teams.
· Analyze and define market segments within nearshore, research, operational, and exploration/energy areas.
· Develop marketing, business, sales and distribution strategies and new product plans.
· Forecast and analyze short and long term market trends and make appropriate recommendations.
The position will also involve writing technical papers and application notes, and travel to conferences, exhibitions and customer sites. It will also involve providing feedback to the engineering team for ongoing and future hardware/software development, particularly as they relate to the measurements of currents, waves and tides.
Applicants should also have the following qualifications:
· Minimum of a MS (PhD preferred) in one of the following areas, or equivalent: Physical Oceanography, Fluid Dynamics, Applied Acoustics, Physics or Ocean Engineering.
· Minimum 3 years experience in project-based work.
· Demonstrate experience/knowledge in the fundamental theories, concepts and state-of-the-art technology developments in coastal oceanography or environmental fluid dynamics including, but not limited to, measuring turbulence, mixing, coastal zone currents, directional surface waves, bottom boundary layer dynamics and sediment transport.
· Strong understanding of underwater acoustics is a plus.
