Company Information: OSIL (Ocean Scientific International ltd.) provide marine instruments and systems for environmental measurement and monitoring particularly relating to marine, coastal, dredge, environmental and meteorological applications. OSIL specialise in marine equipment such as data buoys, tow vehicles, sediment corers and underwater cameras, with probes for measuring water quality, conductivity, temperature, pressure and sound velocity, along with laboratory instruments such as salinometers and thermometers. Established in 1989, OSIL is a small, specialist company which supplies products and services to universities, military, research institutes, oil companies and environmental agencies worldwide.
Job Description: An opportunity has arisen for a science or engineering graduate to join the OSIL team in the manufacture and support of oceanographic systems worldwide. This is primarily an office based position though field trips involving installations, diagnosis, fault finding and repair in support of customer supplied systems are required.
Skills and Qualities: The successful candidate will have some working knowledge of environmental instrumentation, data loggers and telemetry systems. You must have a high degree of common sense with hands-on practical skills and computer literacy. You should be self-motivated, organised and understand the principles of marine monitoring (e.g. turbidity, currents, tides, water quality). You must hold a full UK driving licence and be prepared to travel on occasions (UK and abroad).
OSIL offer a non-contributory pension scheme (after 12 months) and 25 days annual leave.
