J Ray McDermott Inc. has awarded Tideland Signal a contract worth approximately $0.5 million to supply navigational aids for ARAMCO's Manifa Offshore platforms (WIP and PP) in the Gulf, off the coast of Saudi Arabia 120 miles North West of Dharhan.

Tideland is to supply 28 solar-powered beacon systems and 24 systems that are powered from an AC mains supply with battery back-up. Both systems are built around Tideland's ML-300UL lanterns coupled with the TF-3B MicroPower Omnibus II flasher lampchanger and batteries. Tideland's ML-300 lantern features a one-piece acrylic fresnel lens designed to deliver maximum beamed light for the lowest possible power consumption.

The 28 solar-powered units are each equipped with a 20W solar module charging a lead acid battery housed in a GRP battery box at the foot of a 1.5 metre pedestal. The mains-powered units are also pedestal mounted and use similar back-up batteries coupled to a battery charger housed in an explosion-proof container. All equipment is UL to Class 1, Division II, Gas group D.

The Manifa project involves the construction of 13 new platforms and modifications to 26 existing observation well platforms. The new structures are required for six oil production deck modules that will accommodate equipment required for the electric submersible pumps and seven new water injection platforms. The project is due for completion in mid 2011.

The present contract follows a number of earlier ones under which Tideland supplied large numbers of platform warning systems as well as buoys and lanterns to guide shipping into the ARAMCO terminal in the port of Jiddah and the Jyamah and Ras Tanura channels.

Responsible for 99% of Saudi Arabia's crude oil reserves, ARAMCO produces and exports more crude oil than any other company in the world. It deploys one of the largest and most modern fleets of supertanker and has refining and marketing joint ventures around the globe.

Approved to ISO 9001:2008, Tideland Signal Limited is a British-based member of the Tideland group of companies, which specializes in aids to marine navigation. The Tideland group is independently owned and has its headquarters in Houston, Texas.
