The 60th research cruise of the RSS James Cook completed recently, having spent 5 weeks in the North East Atlantic, collecting samples from the Darwin Mounds and Rockall Bank (North-West of Scotland) for Oceanlab researchers Dr. Evina Gontikaki & Neils Jobsvogt to study seabed habitats, assess the extent of human impact on these areas, and the effect of marine protected areas.

Set-up by Ocean Voyages Institute of California in 2008, Project Kaisei seeks viable solutions to the growing problems associated with marine debris in the North Pacific Gyre, which can then be developed for all oceans of the world.

Ships Electronic Services (SES), a market leader in maritime communication and navigation electronics has completed a contract with BP Shipping to supply 25 ships with Thrane and Thrane’s Fleetbroadband 250 systems. The upgrade sees BP using the economical Fleetbroadband as a replacement for the now obsolete Inmarsat B systems.
